First National Bank Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to economic empowerment by partnering with the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD) to host a groundbreaking financial education workshop. The inaugural First National Bank financial literacy Persons with Disabilities session gathered over 40 participants at the GFD Conference Hall in Accra, delivering practical tools designed to build long-term economic security for vulnerable communities.

The intensive training program covered two of the institution’s flagship financial education modules: “Understanding My Money” and “Growing My Money.” Participants received hands-on instruction in personal money management, commercial banking navigation, structured savings plans, and capital investment strategies.
This initiative forms a core component of the bank’s broader strategy to expand equitable access to financial services. Speaking during the workshop, Head of Retail Banking at First National Bank Ghana, Akweley Laryea, emphasized that meaningful economic inclusion requires direct educational outreach alongside standard service delivery.
“At First National Bank Ghana, we believe that true financial inclusion goes beyond providing access to banking services,” Laryea stated. “It means equipping everyone with the knowledge, confidence, and support they need to make informed financial decisions and achieve their goals. This programme reflects our approach to ensuring that Persons with Disabilities are fully included in the economic opportunities our society offers.”
Laryea added that the institution views inclusive banking as an essential corporate responsibility. “We are continuously enhancing our products, services, and employee capabilities to create a banking experience that is accessible, respectful, and empowering for all our customers,” she affirmed, pledging sustained support toward building an inclusive financial ecosystem across Ghana.
Internal Staff Training Complements Inclusive Educational Outreach
The community outreach initiative follows a structured capacity-building partnership between the financial institution and advocacy leaders at the GFD. Prior to hosting the public training session, the bank conducted specialized disability inclusion workshops for its corporate staff across all operational departments.
Facilitated by GFD inclusion specialists, the internal employee sessions provided practical guidelines on professional engagement, communication protocols, and physical assistance strategies tailored to support customers with physical, sensory, or cognitive disabilities.
Senior Disability Inclusion Advisor at the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations, Rebecca Nunoo, praised the banking institution for establishing a proactive, double-barreled approach to accessibility within the financial services industry.
“We are encouraged by First National Bank Ghana’s proactive approach, not only in educating our community on financial matters but also in investing in the capacity of its employees to better understand and support the unique needs of Persons with Disabilities,” Nunoo remarked. “This is the type of partnership that creates lasting impact.”
Nunoo noted that sustained cooperation between commercial banks and disability advocacy groups remains vital to dismantling systemic barriers and guaranteeing equitable participation within Ghana’s national economy.
