President John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghanaians to fully embrace the government’s Free Primary Healthcare programme, particularly its home-visit component designed to bring essential health services directly to households.
Speaking at a Free Primary Healthcare durbar at the Zuarungu Health Centre during his #ResettingGhana Tour of the Upper East Region, President Mahama described the home visits as a critical part of the programme.
He explained that community health nurses and volunteers would visit households to conduct basic health screenings, including checks for hypertension and diabetes.
The health workers will also identify pregnant women, newborns and other individuals who may require further medical attention and refer them to appropriate health facilities.
President Mahama encouraged households to welcome health workers and comply with referrals, stressing that early detection and treatment can help prevent serious health complications.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to achieving universal healthcare and emphasised that access to quality healthcare should not depend on a person’s location.
“People should not die because of where they were born or where they live. Everybody has a right to good healthcare,” President Mahama said.
