Mahama Commissions Paga SHS E-Block, Urges Support for Free Primary Healthcare
President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned the completed E-Block at Paga Senior High School as part of efforts by his government to expand educational infrastructure and improve access to quality secondary education across Ghana.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony during his #ResettingGhana Tour of the Upper East Region, President Mahama assured students and staff of the government’s commitment to providing a better learning environment at Paga SHS.
He said the government’s efforts to end the double-track system would increase student-teacher contact hours and contribute to improved performance in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
President Mahama also announced plans to establish E-Blocks in densely populated areas across major cities. The facilities, he said, would serve as Community Day Senior High Schools, allowing children to attend schools closer to their homes.
Mahama Urges Support for Free Primary Healthcare
President Mahama has also urged Ghanaians to fully embrace the government’s Free Primary Healthcare programme, particularly the home visits designed to bring essential healthcare services directly to households.
Addressing a Free Primary Healthcare durbar at the Zuarungu Health Centre during his tour of the Upper East Region, the President described the home-visit component as a critical part of the programme.
He explained that community health nurses and volunteers would conduct basic screenings, including checks for hypertension and diabetes, while identifying pregnant women, newborns and other people who may require further medical attention.
President Mahama encouraged households to welcome health workers into their homes and comply with referrals when necessary, stressing that early detection of health conditions could help prevent serious complications.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to universal healthcare and emphasised that access to quality healthcare should not depend on a person’s location.
“People should not die because of where they were born or where they live. Everybody has a right to good healthcare,” President Mahama said.
