One Africa Securities Limited has achieved a major regulatory milestone after securing admission to the Securities and Exchange Commission Ghana (SEC) Virtual Asset Sandbox, building on its earlier selection for the Bank of Ghana (BoG) regulatory sandbox in January 2026.
The dual admission enables the broker-dealer to test asset tokenisation, digital bonds, treasury bills, and commodities within controlled, live-testing environments supervised by national regulators.
DUAL REGULATORY SANDBOX PARTICIPATION
| BoG Regulatory Sandbox | Testing tokenised treasury bills, bonds, and commodities. |
| SEC Virtual Asset Sandbox | Testing asset tokenisation and digital debt securities. |
| Strategic Objective | Validating regulatory rules for virtual asset issuance. |
| Retail Rollout Target | September 2026 launch of ChainOA investment platform. |
Advancing asset tokenisation and market infrastructure
Participating in both the BoG and SEC regulatory sandbox frameworks positions One Africa Securities to support the development of formal guidelines covering virtual asset exchange, custody, administration, and issuance in Ghana.
Global financial institutions—including J.P. Morgan via its Kinexys platform and BlackRock through blockchain-enabled investment funds—are similarly leveraging asset tokenisation to enhance settlement efficiency.
Edward Illiasu, Group Head of Fixed Income and Director at One Africa Securities Limited, highlighted the importance of collaborative oversight:
“This is an important milestone for One Africa Securities Limited and reflects our commitment to responsible financial innovation. Our participation in these regulatory sandboxes allows us to explore how technology can enhance financial markets while ensuring that innovation develops alongside regulation, trust and investor protection.”
Democratizing access through the ChainOA investment platform
Norbert Dziwornu, Group Head of Innovation at parent company One Africa Markets, noted that the initiative aims to reduce friction, lower entry thresholds, and expand market access across the continent.
To bring tokenised real-world assets directly to retail investors, the firm plans to launch its digital investment platform, ChainOA (Chain One Africa), across major app stores in September 2026.
The platform will allow users to invest in fractionated government securities, corporate bonds, and commodities starting with accessible minimum amounts.
One Africa Securities Limited operates as a licensed SEC broker-dealer, authorised Primary Dealer, and Bond Market Specialist within Ghana’s government securities market.
